Steelhead”, 2019
Forged and Welded Steel
19”x 3”x 7”

I created this piece at the end of a 3 week internship with the Bliss Studio and Gallery in Monument, Colorado. During the internship I shadowed and worked with each of her employees in hopes of better understanding all that goes into running an individual, metal-based studio practice. I was taken through the process of customer relations, design and planning, production, finishing, and finally delivery and installation helping out at each step of the way. This piece was inspired by the color scale of steel, a light refraction pattern that occurs on the surface as the material is heated. A phenomenon which is readily found within the ebb and flow of temperature in a blacksmithing shop and something I noticed frequently during my stent.
